Glass
Glass is hard but prone to scratching and breakage. Cleaning methods should remove contamination without etching or damaging the surface.
-
Dry vapor steam cleaning: Removes grease, fingerprints, and light mineral deposits from windows, panels, and sight-glasses with little or no chemical use.
-
Soda blasting (carefully controlled): At low pressure with fine media, it can remove graffiti or certain coatings from glass and glazed surfaces, but must be controlled to minimize frosting.
-
Laser cleaning: Used in specialized applications to remove coatings or contaminants from glass and glass/metal interfaces with very precise energy control.
-
Poultice cleaning: Applied to historic glass and glazing assemblies to lift stains or salts from surrounding materials where aggressive scrubbing is not acceptable.
-
Chemical cleaning: Glass-safe chemicals dissolve hard water stains, mineral deposits, and films without abrasion when used according to manufacturer guidelines.
